The AuthorTasnim, also known by many as Kausar, was born in Edinburgh. Along with her sister and brothers she was one of the first generation of children who grew up in Scotland whose parents had arrived here from Pakistan in the 1950's. After completing her education in Edinburgh, Kausar started her career as a mathematics teacher. Curries were already quite popular in Scotland in the 1980's and she was encouraged by her colleagues to write a few recipes to sell for charity. Living at home and having very little experience of cooking, she sat with a pen and pad of paper asking her mum how she cooked various foods. Unable to type, she managed to persuade her sister to type the collation of recipes and this was the original charitable fund raiser. After marrying her husband, Khalid, she started using her first name, Tasnim, which can still cause confusion at times!! Moving to Coventry was a big ordeal as this meant she had to perfect her cooking without her mum being close by. |
|
There were one or two disasters, but over the years Tasnim has adjusted her lifestyle to cope with working full time as well as being a mum and host at many family and social gatherings. Moving to Glasgow, which has once again been voted the curry capital of Britain, the demand for recipes from friends and colleagues increased. Many people who had now bought the new word processed version of the collation of recipes encouraged Tasnim to have the book published. Hence, Tasnim, Khalid, daughter Sophina and son Yousuf spent the school summer holidays cooking and taking photographs and Curries Made Simple was launched on the 1 st of October 2005. The book sales went better than expected including some orders from America, Australia, Germany and Spain. A reprint was ordered in June 2006. Tasnim is hoping to launch 2 new products in the Curries Made Simple Ltd range so that the authentic taste can be achieved quickly to assist our busy lifestyles: Wicked Sauce will be a tasty accompaniment for all types of food including pakoras, samosas and even potato chips! Tandoori Marinade will be ready for coating meat, chicken or vegetables and is a very healthy option. Another development includes Curry and/or Pakora Parties in the comfort of the customer's own home. Tasnim is grateful to Khalid, Sophina and Yousuf and all her family and friends who have helped her in promoting her book and business. |
